TWO young children have been seriously hurt after a crash involving a car and pedestrians in Upper Gornal this morning (Tuesday).

The children - a girl aged four and a two-year-old boy - were with their mother crossing Burton Road just before 8.30am when they were hit by a car.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford to the scene and the road has been closed while officers work to establish what happened.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to discover two patients, a young boy and a young girl, who had been involved in collision with a car.

“They both received treatment for multiple serious injuries at the scene before being transferred to Birmingham Children Hospital by ambulances.

“The air ambulance crew, which included a doctor, split between the two ambulances to help continue treatment to both patients en-route to hospital.”

The driver of a VW Polo was assisting police with their enquiries, police said.

Anyone who saw what happened is urged to contact Sergeant Adrian Brown from the force traffic department on 101 or via the police live Web Chat between 8am and midnight at west-midlands.police.uk.
