THE occupants of a car which ended up on fire and suspended in the air on railings in Dudley had fled the scene by the time emergency services arrived.

Brierley Hill and Dudley fire crews attended the incident in Wellington Road at around 4.45am on Sunday January 6 after an ambulance crew spotted the black Mini ablaze and embedded on railings.

The car had come to rest precariously on top of railings at the side of the road after the crash and suffered around 30 per cent fire damage.

Ten firefighters were called out to the incident but there was no trace of the occupants.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police confirmed officers were also called out to the crash but she said no further police action was to be taken.

Brierley Hill firefighters took to Twitter after the incident to warn motorists to be "be careful on the roads especially as the temperature is dropping".
