DUDLEY Group bosses are urging members of the public to think twice before attending Russells Hall Hospital’s emergency department which is currently under severe pressure.
People are being asked to use an alternative NHS service and only use the Dudley hospital’s A&E department if they are suffering from a serious or life-threatening condition at this busy time.
Anyone presenting with a minor conditon faces a very long wait as hospital bosses have stressed the most poorly patients will be seen and treated first.
Chief nurse Siobhan Jordan said: “Our A&E is really busy at the moment, so we’re asking that people support us to ensure we can treat the sickest patients as a priority.
"We also ask that people only come to A&E if they really need this level of care.
“If patients aren’t sure which service is right them, they can call NHS 111 or use the new Ask NHS app which will help direct them to the most appropriate place for their needs.”
People can also go to a pharmacist or contact their GP.
