THE funeral of a popular Black Country hospital nurse is due to take place next Tuesday (July 21).

Christian Davies, known to friends and family as Hugh, died after his motorcycle hit a van at the junction of Pedmore Road and The Gateway, Brierley Hill, as he made his way to work at Russells Hall Hospital on June 30.

The 50-year-old father-of-one, of Martindale Walk, Amblecote, Stourbridge, suffered multiple injuries and was declared dead at the scene - despite the efforts of passersby and paramedics who rushed to help.

An inquest into his death was opened at Sandwell Coroners Court last Thursday and Black Country Coroner Zafar Siddique adjourned proceedings until August 20.

Meanwhile Mr Davies's funeral will be held St Mark's Church, Pensnett, on Tuesday July 21 at 1.15pm, and will be followed by a private committal service for relatives only.

Donations, in lieu of flowers, will go to a support group for sufferers of Holt-Oram Syndrome and the British Motorcycle Federation - via funeral directors Co-operative Funeralcare, 154A High Street, Bloxwich, WS3 3JT.
