A QUARRY Bank GP surgery has improved enough to be given good ratings across the board following its recent focused inspection from the national health regulators.

Dr Rameshchandra Shah’s practice at Thorns Road Surgery was criticised during a Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection in October 2015 for not providing safe services to patients, although it was rated good in all other criteria.

CQC inspectors returned to the surgery one year later to focus on the safety aspects which previously “required improvements”, but those now been given a positive rating.

Professor Steve Field, the CQC’s chief inspector of general practice, said in his report which was published this week: “We carried out an inspection visit in October 2015. As a result, breaches of legal requirements were found and the practice was rated as requires improvements for providing safe services.

“This was because we identified some areas where the provider must make improvements and additional areas where the provider should improve.

“We carried out a focussed desk-based inspection on October 21 to check that the provider had made improvements.

“Since our comprehensive inspection in October 2015, the practice had applied for disclosure and barring (DBS) checks for non-clinical staff members who chaperoned and for the practice nurse. We saw evidence to support this.”

He also states that the practice now follows appropriate cold chain processes in line with national guidelines, regular fire drills were taking place and there were risk assessments in place.
