A Charity Dinner with Speaker was held on Thursday 20th September at The Granary, Shenstone, Kidderminster organised by Mrs Sue Williams of Clent, supported by Dr Louise Wright raising funds for Mary Stevens Hospice.
The Speaker was the well known jockey Bob Champion. He told of his upbringing and early life in racing and the very difficult time he had when suddenly diagnosed with cancer and its subsequent treatment.
His talk included films of various races he had participated in which also included his Grand National win on Aldaniti. Mention was also made of his performance when he was appointed Sportsman of the Year.
It was a very successful event with £4000 being raised of which over £3100 would be allocated to Mary Stevens Hospice and £600 to Bob Champion’s own cancer charity.
Mr David Johnson, Chairman of the Hospice Board of Trustees, expressed his thanks to Mrs Sue Williams, Bob Champion and all who had made the event such a success.
