The prospect of a Brexit deal leads a number of the papers on Thursday, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson due to head to the continent for a crunch summit with EU leaders.

The Times says Mr Johnson’s fate is in the hands of the DUP in Northern Ireland with the paper reporting Arlene Foster’s opposition has “emerged as the most significant obstacle to an agreement”.

The Daily Telegraph leads with a line from the Prime Minister comparing the negotiations to the Shawshank Redemption, a film in which a prisoner climbs through a sewer to freedom.

The Guardian says Mr Johnson is facing a “last-minute scramble” to secure the backing of his Northern Irish allies.

Metro runs with the punny headline of “Summit’s got to give”, with the paper reporting that VAT may prove a stumbling block, while the i reports on a “deadlock” over a deal.

The Independent says Mr Johnson is facing an “uphill fight” to keep his pledge of leaving the European Union by the end of October.

The Daily Mail says Mr Johnson is “tantalisingly close” to a Brexit deal after “1,210 days of dithering, delay and doom”, while the Daily Express reports that the agreement comes “against all odds”.

The Daily Mirror says Brexit is on “a knife edge”, and carries a picture of Leah Bracknell after the Emmerdale actress dies aged 55.

The Sun reports that more than 100 celebrities who support protest group Extinction Rebellion have signed a letter admitting they are “climate change hypocrites”.

The Financial Times leads on the fallout of the collapse of one of Neil Woodford’s funds extending to fund supermarket Hargreaves Lansdown.

And the Daily Star says the soap world is in mourning after Ms Bracknell’s death.
