DELIGHTED organisers of Stourport Carnival said this popular annual event helped raised more than £2,000 for local good causes.

Thousands of people lined the streets of the town to enjoy the big bash, which featured a host of fun activities and entertainment, when it was held last month.

And the day proved to be a success in terms of charitable efforts when a total of £2,428.24 was raised from the collection carried out during the parade – one of the best for a number of years.

The day itself benefitted from glorious sunshine which drew one of the biggest crowds in the event’s 93-year history.

This year’s royal consort was made up of queen Laura Potts, princess Gabby Evans, rosebud Hermione Homer, prince Zach Savage and young prince Harrison Bianco.

A host of floats and street performers paraded through the streets while decorated boats took to the river later in the day.

A committee spokeswoman said: “Stourport Carnival Society is pleased to announce that the parade collection taken on Saturday, September 1 was £2,428.24 which is the best for some years.

“Grateful thanks to all who contributed. Local charities will benefit from donations from these proceeds.”

Organisers are keen for more people to get involved in helping put on the carnival and to contribute ideas to keep it fresh each year.
