IN response to increased levels of local crime residents in Astwood Bank are being offered free Smartwater kits.

The move is part of a campaign launched by county councillor Roger Bennett, supported by West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion, under the West Mercia Police We Don’t Buy Crime initiative.

Cllr Bennett, along with councillor Brandon Clayton and councillor Craig Warhurst, said the aim was to help local residents prevent crime in their homes.

Councillor Clayton said: “Smartwater is proven to prevent burglaries, and it is already acting as an extremely effective deterrent across West Mercia. By protecting these additional homes in the areas of Astwood Bank we are working to make even more people feel safe and secure.”

Councillor Warhurst added: “I am pleased to work with cllr Bennett in this initiative for the benefit of the residents and I believe this system is a great deterrent.

"With the dark nights approaching it is important to deliver this solution quickly to our residents.

"Smartwater consists of a liquid containing a unique code, whose presence can be seen under ultraviolet light, it's unique to you and your property."

The free kits are available from St Mathias and St George's church hall in Astwood Bank on Saturday, October 27 from 2.30pm to 6.30pm.

The free kits come from Cllr Bennetts' divisional funds, allocated to him by Worcestershire County Council.
