FORMER deputy prime minister Sir Nick Clegg will take up a senior post at global social media giant Facebook.

In a move that took the UK politics world by surprise, the ex-Liberal Democrat leader was unveiled on Friday as the firm’s head of global affairs and communications.

Writing on the platform, the 51-year-old said it was “an exciting new adventure” and he would move to the US with his family in January to work at the Menlo Park headquarters in California’s Silicon Valley.

POLICE have warned residents of two villages not to approach a black panther reported to be on the loose in the area.

Police Scotland said they received a report of a suspected sighting of the panther at around 8.45am on Friday in fields near to the B730 road between the villages of Drongan and Coalhall, East Ayrshire.

Residents have been advised to be vigilant and officers are currently trying to trace the animal.

DEVON and Cornwall Police has admitted breaching health and safety legislation in relation to a belt used on a man who died after being restrained in custody.

Judge Julian Lambert will determine issues that remain outstanding between prosecution and defence teams at a Newton hearing in April.

These include whether the breaches caused Thomas Orchard’s death and training of the belt within the Devon and Cornwall Police.
