A SCHOOL in Wolverley has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise £5,000 for a new science and arts facility.

Heathfield Knoll School is appealing for donations towards an ambitious new project to turn an old arts space into a 'STEAM' facility where pupils of all ages can study creatively together.

The Science Technology Engineering Arts and Maths room will provide a space for students to experiment with ideas and technology, from investigating electronics and LEGO engineering to planned water modelling.

An engineering workshop is also proposed for the courtyard the facility overlooks.

Heathfield Knoll headmaster Lawrence Collins said: "Developing a STEAM facility means we can help children to think creatively across a range of subjects from a very young age.

Kidderminster Shuttle:

"We don’t really know what the future holds in terms of jobs, so it is important to concentrate on developing a creative mindset and approach."

The school has already designated £1,000 of its funds to kickstart the appeal, and is now appealing to parents, supporters and local businesses to donate via its Invest My School online page.

Mr Collins added: "We thought a crowdfunding appeal was the ideal way to raise funds for a facility which invests in our children’s futures as it is easy and online and people in our community and the wider community can donate as much or as little as they are able, anonymously or otherwise."
