Kidderminster has never looked cleaner thanks to the efforts of a community litter picking group - and an army of young volunteers.

The Junior Pickup Artists have been out and about enlisting the help of various schools and youth groups around the town.

Last week they visited St John’s Primary School in Kidderminster for The Great British Spring Clean.

Two year six classes were educated on the effect litter has on the environment and in our communities completing a hands on litter pickup event.

The 58 children were split into four groups to tackle the litter within the school grounds and local community streets.

An amazing 26 bags of litter was collected and the children were an absolute credit to their school showing incredible determination and enthusiasm to tidy their area up.

The Great British spring clean has been running since March 22 and continues until April 23 a total of 33 days.

By then the junior pickup artists will have completed in total 21 educational events in schools, community groups such as Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, Guides, Brownies, Rainbows and Reach throughout #GBSpringclean.

The total number of rubbish bags filled from the junior pickup artists educational visits within the Great British Spring Clean is 141 bags with five more events left to go.

The junior pickup artists programme is running throughout 2019 and has been funded by AVIVA community funding. This means this extra curriculum activity can be offered free of charge.

The programme is run by the volunteers from the Pickup Artists and has full support from Wyre Forest District Council.
