MALVERN'S past is set to be brought back to life and celebrated when the town holds its Heritage Day later this month.

The event, being held on Easter Saturday, includes interactive displays and re-enactments celebrating all aspects of the town's history.

The event will run from 11am until 3pm and include activities inside and outside Great Malvern Priory.

In the Priory grounds, there will be the chance to experience life in the past with the Sealed Knot re-enactment society and have a go at battle drills, which will be held at 11.30am and 2pm.

Feudals Living History will also be showing how things used to be done, with interactive displays about the use of spices, a hand flour mill, an old baker’s oven, fabric dyeing, and arms and armour.

Worcestershire Wildlife Trust will have displays and fun activities for children, and Planet Art will be running heritage-themed craft workshops in the Lyttelton Well rooms.

In Great Malvern Priory, there will be displays in the north aisle by the Friends of Dame Laura Knight Society and Malvern Museum.

Malvern Museum will also be opening its own doors in Abbey Road free of charge on the day, allowing visitors able to see first-hand examples of the town’s heritage, including rocks and fossils from the Malvern Hills, and learn how the natural springs were used in Victorian times for the water cure.

As part of this special day of activities, the Mayor of Malvern would like to invite the Malvern community to attend her civic service in the priory from 3pm until 4pm with refreshments served afterwards in the north aisle.

The theme of the service this year is Malvern’s Heritage, and it will include performances from Malvern Hills District Brass Band and the Hills Singers, and readings from Peter Smith, director of Autumn in Malvern and a town councillor, and Evie Knight from Friends of Dame Laura Knight Society.
