IT’s really not mumbo jumbo that you can pay what you like at a forthcoming gig, at Worcester Arts Workshop.

But Mumbo-Jumbo will be the acoustic vaudeville combo for a ‘Pay What You Think It’s Worth” appearance on Friday, May 3, from 8pm

A spokesman said: “Acoustic vaudeville comes to Worcester’s newest live venue with top piano-led, close-harmony singer songwriting trio Mumbo-Jumbo bringing their own brand of humour and song to the Worcester Arts Workshop.

“Playing across the UK at festivals, blues and folk clubs and village hall shows, eclectic double British Blues Awards nominees Mumbo-Jumbo not only create excellent, interesting songs with three lead voices, but also a utilise a whole flock of instruments including piano, accordion, bass, trumpet, ukulele, guitar, washboard, kazoo and percussion.”

The spokesman added: “This unique evening of music and merriment comes with an even more unique price tag, as tickets to Mumbo-Jumbo are available to buy for... any amount! Audiences are being offered the chance to ‘Pay What It’s Worth’ for this performance.”

But what do Mumbo Jumbo think about that? Well, the band is all for it.

Mumbo-Jumbo’s singer and trumpeter, Oliver Carpenter said; “We chose Worcester to test out the idea of ‘Pay What You Think it’s Worth’ which means that you come and see the gig for free and then decide what you want to pay at the end.

“Our gigs are normally ticketed at between £8 to £10, but we want to offer music goers the chance to decide what is a fair price for the entertainment they have received. We are really confident they are going to have an absolute blast!”

Mumbo-Jumbo sits somewhere between blues, folk and jazz with tinges of reggae “and whatever else takes their fancy on the night”.

“With songs about old soldiers, baldness and the joy of life the guys bring humour and fun to the performance.”
