A MAN accused of injuring five police officers after ramming their cars during a chase is set to appear in crown court.

Irfan Mohammed is charged with aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, driving without insurance and possession of cannabis, after a van collided with three police cars.

At around 9am on Saturday morning, police attempted to stop a suspected stolen Luton-style van in Salwarpe Road, Droitwich, after it had been first spotted on the M5 south.

The vehicle had foreign number plates and had been reported stolen from the Coleshill area on Friday (May 17).

The police officers are understood to have suffered minor injuries but it is unclear whether they were taken to hospital.

The van was recovered following the incident and Mr Mohammed, 30, was arrested.

He appeared before magistrates in Kidderminster on Monday but did not enter a plea.

The case was sent to Worcester Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on June 17.

Mr Mohammed, of Coleshill Road, Birmingham, is represented by Hussain Solicitors.

Detective Inspector Ed Slough previously said: “We believe the van was deliberately driven at police vehicles attempting to stop it and are keen to speak to any motorists who were in the area at the time of the incident and have dash cam footage.

“If anyone has information that could assist our enquiries we would urge them to get in contact.”
