AN estate manager ran 100 miles for the hospice that supports his niece.

Guy Baber, from Hampshire, ran the 8th annual South Downs Way 100 mile race (SDW100) last weekend in a time of 24 hours, 11 minutes starting at 6am on Saturday 8th June, running through the day and night, and finishing at 6.11am on Sunday, raising £1,375 (including Gift Aid) for Acorns Children’s Hospice and Highreach Holidays.

Mr Baber's niece, Amalie, got very ill when she was 2 years old and suffered from brain damage, leaving her disabled and needing 24 hour care and support. The Acorn Children’s Hospice, has three locations in Walsall, Worcester and Selly Oak, and continues to support Amalie, her family, and other families like them.

Mr Baber who works at Highfield and Brookham Schools said: “I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has sponsored me. I know how much Acorns supports my niece, her family and other families like them. Meeting everyone attending Highreach Holidays was a privilege, and it was obvious how much it meant to all the children and their families. So raising this money is my way of saying thank you to these charities and helping them, in a small way, continue their amazing work.”

Highreach Holidays is a small volunteer-run organisation that provides an annual week-long residential holiday for children like Amalie and young adults, aged 8 -16 years old, with a range of learning difficulties, who may also have physical disabilities or medical conditions.
