LONG queues at last week’s Parish Poll, about the proposed single access to a new estate, belied the fact that the turn-out was relatively low.

The turn-out was 14.9 per cent of the electorate.

Only a single polling station was provided, which was Ledbury Community Hall, Lawnside Road.

But the verdict of the electorate was clear, with 1022 voting against the idea that single access off the Bromyard Road was “satisfactory”, and just 49 voting in favour of the single access concept for the new estate.

The news was welcomed by Wellington Heath correspondent, Peter Constantine, who was pleased with the 95 per majority against the idea of single access.

Wellington Heath stands to be particularly affected by the development, because main access points to the village are also off the Bromyard Road, and villagers fear traffic jams and rat-running problems once the 625 home estate is built.

Mr Constantine said: “The new plans for the Bromyard Rd/Hereford Rd junction would no doubt improve traffic flow and safety, but the report simply ignores a similarly reasoned consideration of the access, originally proposed, under the viaduct. There has been no professional comparison between alternative options.”
