ALCESTER'S annual Mop will be visiting the town later this month.

The traditional mop rolls into town on Sunday, September 29 for two days.

Tuesday, October 1 is officially Mop night, a fair that dates back 400 plus years as a hiring market for workers and trades folk.

Rides and stalls will be filling the High Street, and there will be an official opening on the Tuesday, at 4pm near the Royal Oak pub when officers of the Court Leet will be meet before parading through the streets and declaring the Mop officially open.

The Mop will also feature its traditional charity auction outside St Nicholas Church gates.

The auction is taking place at 7pm and all proceeds will be going to the High Bailiff's Charity Fund, which this year has donated to several local groups.
