A WORLD record crocus planting attempt is going to be made in Redditch this weekend.

The aim is to plant 12,000 crocus bulbs at Arrow Valley Park - in just one hour.

Organised by the Redditch Kingfisher Rotary, the attempt will take place on tomorrow October 13 at 10am.

People are being encouraged to come along and support the event, but to take part people should have registered.

A spokesman said: "As well as getting into the Guinness Book of Records, our aim is to highlight the ongoing battle spearheaded by Rotary to eradicate the crippling disease of Polio worldwide.

"There are people in Redditch who remember the time when Polio was feared and some are currently living with post-polio syndrome. We want to ensure no one has to experience this in the future."

They added: "This event is a family orientated community morning for everyone to enjoy.

"With a meat and veggie barbecue lined up to keep everyone fuelled up and happy, we want you to dig in and help plant 12,000 crocus corms in one hour."
