THE Evesham Journal will soon be on the move to a new home after the University of Worcester agreed to buy our current base.
Newsquest is in the process of selling Berrow’s House in Hylton Road, Worcester, to the university.
Newsquest, which owns the Evesham and Cotswold Journals and our sister papers the Worcester News and Malvern Gazette, is in the process of finalising alternative offices within the city for the approximately 120 employees based at Berrow’s House, and hopes to move in spring next year.
Ownership of the Berrow’s House site, which has 38 parking spaces, increases the possibilities for the university to create the University Severn Campus, which will focus on health, well-being and inclusive sport courses.
The news brand has been based at Berrow’s House since September 1965.
Julia Lancett, managing director for Newsquest Midlands South, said: “Although we’ll be sad to leave Berrow’s House as we have so much history here, we’re looking forward to moving to a modern office which is more fit for purpose for our digitally-led business, while remaining at the heart of Worcester.”
The university is expected to take possession of Berrow’s House by July 1.
Mark Hughes, director of estates and facilities at the University of Worcester, said: “Ownership of the building and site, which includes 38 car parking spaces, further extends the possibilities for the successful creation of the University Severn Campus, whose focus will be on health, well-being and inclusive sport.”
