A BODY has been found in Upton-upon-Severn.

Police said a 25-year-old woman was found unresponsive in Causeway Lane, near Upton fire station.

A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.

The woman's next of kin has been informed.

Police have cordoned off an area near to Upton fire station and extra officers are in the area.

Police officers and forensic teams are currently at the scene. 

The police said they were called at around 8am this morning. 

Detective Inspector Jim Bayliss said: “Our enquiries are very much in their early stages and at this stage the woman’s death is being treated as suspicious.

"A man has been arrested and is currently in police custody.

“Extra officers will be in the area, both to carry out enquiries and to offer reassurance.” 

Brian Green who lives next to the fire station said: "I didn't hear anything last night or this morning, I didn't really know. It is a shock. It's always a shock when something like that happens. This is a quiet area normally. We have had a few incidents with drunks outside the club sometimes in the last couple of years.

"I am very sorry to hear about it."
