A CITY jewellery shop has donated £30,000 to a breast cancer charity which will be spent on new technology.

Anja Potze, from Anja Potze Fine Jewellery in Friar Street, has throughout the year raised money in support of The Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven.

The money raised has enabled the charity to buy a portable ultrasound machine.

This new machine will be used by the Worcestershire Breast Unit’s team to help treat breast cancer in men and women across the county.

The compact, portable ultrasound machine is state of the art.

It will allow the charity's consultants greater ability to reach more patients in Worcestershire by offering increased flexibility as to where and how breast disease can be detected.

Consultant breast surgeon, Steven Thrush said: “The support and commitment from Anja Potze since the Breast Unit opened nearly four years ago (as well as before that during the capital appeal), has been phenomenal."

Mr Thrush added: “She is truly a wonderful ambassador for this charity and for the Breast Unit.

“Anja’s dedication to fundraising such a significant amount has enabled us to buy this cutting edge piece of technology which keeps the Worcestershire Breast Unit at the forefront of breast cancer treatment across the United Kingdom.”

Anja Potze said: “As a Worcester city centre business with customers from across the whole county, I meet a lot of people who have been affected in some way by breast cancer and who have been patients at the Unit.

“The Worcestershire Breast Unit is a vital part of the health of our community and we must all support its services.

"I understand from Mr Thrush and his team that this new piece of technology will assist in that.”

The charity was founded in April 2016, following the work of the Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign, which succeeded in raising the £1.8 million needed to fund the build of the Worcestershire Breast Unit. The building is based on the site of Worcestershire Royal Hospital in Newtown Road, Worcester.

The charity provides, at no cost to those in need, services including counselling, hypnotherapy, dietary advice and acupuncture.
