The recent letters by Messrs Dickinson and Milne (Thursday, January 2) perfectly sums up the sorry state of our democracy.

Our general election morphed into a “presidential election”.

The electorate made its unassailable decision that Jeremy Corbyn was considerably more awful than Boris Johnson.

As for Jo Swinson, she never got in the ring.

The quality of the “lobby fodder”, aka “parliamentary candidates” required to give Mr Johnson his  “presidential control” over Parliament hardly registered in voters’ minds.

This specious “presidential election” also had the effect of disenfranchising many voters.

Our revered representational democracy is “dead in a ditch”.
