A CHARITY is looking for volunteers to do a parachute jump to raise money for people with sight loss in Worcestershire.

As part of their 2020 Focus on Sight initiative, Sight Concern Worcestershire are looking for adventurous volunteers to make a fundraising parachute jump – and if you raise enough in sponsorship, your jump will be completely free.

The first person to take the plunge is Ana Karolina Lu, who works for Dolphin Computer Access in Worcester, creators of specialist software enabling people with sight loss and dyslexia to use and create digital content.

Ana said: “For as long as I can remember I’ve always wanted to do a parachute jump. Working for Dolphin and meeting so many colleagues and customers has made me realise how important supporting people with sight loss is, so when the opportunity to jump for Sight Concern came up, I went for it.”

There are three types of jumps available – an ‘accelerated free fall’, where you can experience the thrill of skydiving solo from up to 12,000 feet; a ‘tandem skydive’ from 10,000 feet attached to a professional instructor; and a ‘static line’ jump which is performed solo from up to 3,000 feet.

Individuals can jump from any one of more than 20 British Parachute Association - approved airfields across the UK.

No experience is necessary, as all training is given – and if you raise £360 upwards (depending on the type of jump you choose), your jump will be free.

You can also choose a date to suit you.

Sight Concern Worcestershire’s head office is based in Sansome Walk, Worcester.

The charity has been supporting blind and partially sighted people for more than 130 years.

There are an estimated 8,280 people in Worcestershire suffering from sight loss that has a significant impact on their daily lives.

Each year in Worcestershire, more than 200 people will be registered as blind or partially sighted.
