GREEN bins will not be collected in the city this week, the council has said.
Worcester City Council said it will carry on collecting household waste in black bins from today (March 24) but will not be collecting recycling waste in its green bins due to staff shortages brought on by the coronavirus.
The council has told residents to keep their green bins out and aims to catch up collecting green bins next week.
The council has advised residents to bag up recycling if the green is full and crush cans and plastic bottles to save space. Recycling should not be put in black bins.
For those self-isolating due to having contracted Covid-19 or suspecting that they have contracted it, all personal waste, such as tissues, should be double-bagged and kept separate from other waste for 72 hours, before being placed in the black bin.
The Guildhall in Worcester's High Street is also closed to the public and play areas across the city are also closing in line with government advice.
