HOTELS across the county have answered a call for help and offered extra rooms for recovering coronavirus patients.

Worcestershire County Council launched an appeal on Monday (March 30) for hoteliers across the county to offer spare rooms to be used as a safe space for patients recovering during the coronavirus pandemic and the search for half of the 300 rooms needed was met within just two days.

The room will prove crucial for those who are well enough to leave hospital but still need assessment for social care.

The county council had already secured the services of Stourport Manor and Cadmore Lakeside near Tenbury Wells and The Elms at Abberley when it launched its appeal earlier this week and more hotels across the county have come forward to help.

The council said it is now working with the hotels to provide further rooms for people recovering.

Councillor Karen May, cabinet member for transformation and commissioning at the county council said; “I’m so proud of the wonderful people of Worcestershire coming together and helping us to book the rooms we needed so quickly.

“The rooms will prove vital in ensuring our residents receive the help and support they need during these testing times.

“I’d like to thank everyone who got in touch with me personally and those who contacted us through to our Here 2 Help website, to help us reach our target.

“This is just one of many great examples of the community spirit that has been shown by everyone cross the county in recent weeks.

“It’s been really great to see, and brings a smile to your face.”
