RESIDENTS have united for Eat With Your Street, to build on the success of the NHS Clap for Your Carers event.

Staff and pupils from The River School hope Worcester will adopt the nationwide scheme which sees residents take their dinner to a window, balcony or front door and share a meal together for six minutes from 6pm every Tuesday. The first event in Worcester took place on March 31.

The idea is to continue celebrating the work of frontline NHS staff, after Clap For Our Carers at 8pm on Thursday (March 26) saw thousands of people go to their front doors and windows to acknowledge those tackling coronavirus in our hospitals.

This applause will continue to take place every Thursday across the country.

Adrian Parsonage, headteacher The River School in Droitwich Road, said: “Inspired by ‘Clap for our Carers’, and in the spirit of keeping community, a few members of our team came up with the idea of #EatWithYourStreet – a world’s first ‘Stay At Home Street Party’ we think! Our children, staff and parents at The River School, like most of Worcester, are missing their friends and the social interaction which we are used to. As a result, we thought this might cheer people up and add to the positive message that we are all in this together.”

Join the initiative every Tuesday at 6pm by sitting in your windows, doorways, balconies or gardens to eat.Visit https://eatwithyourstreet.squarespace.com for more.
