A PILOT with 40 years' experience had to make an emergency landing in north Herefordshire due to engine failure, the fire service said.

The plane came down in a field near Kingsland, but Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said the experienced pilot escaped without any injuries.

"Crews from Kingsland, Leominster, Droitwich, Malvern and Hereford were called at 1.45pm on May 21 to a light aircraft which had come down near Kingsland," a spokesman said.

"The pilot, with 40 years’ experience, had lost power on his way back to the airfield after a 40-minute flight and made an emergency landing a mile short of the runway.

"No casualties, although ambulance also attended."

The fire service added the pilot was out of the plane before they arrived.
