LUDLOW now has a real chance to bounce back.

This is the view of Andy Boddington, Shropshire councillor for Ludlow North, who has just started to move out of a period of shielding.

He said that the move to allow social distancing at one metre could make a big change.

“Two metre distancing has been difficult on Ludlow’s narrow streets,” said Mr Boddington.

“It has proved impossible on its narrow pavements.

“Ludlow is a historic town built around cafes, pubs and restaurants. It is full of independent traders. It has one of the best open air markets in England.”

The councillor also believes that it can give a boost to the market that has seen a slow start since it reopened.

“Ludlow market has been limping along since it reopened,” added Mr Boddington.

“The change to a one metre social distancing rule will allow more retailers to trade on the market.”

“More people will come to shop if there is more on offer.

“The Castle will reopen. Cafes and restaurants will at last be open to eat in customers.

“Pubs will spring back into life. They are likely to be more continental in style, with a table service. The friendly chatter of people leaning against the bar will sadly be banished for the time being.

“It is time for Ludlow to bounce back into action. If our retail economy doesn’t thrive, Ludlow won’t be Ludlow.”
