A WOMAN believed to be the oldest person in Kidderminster has died weeks after her 107th birthday.

Daisy Kench passed away peacefully at Nightingale Court care home in Comberton Road on Tuesday, June 23.

She had lived at the home for nearly four years after moving to a flat in Kidderminster from Birmingham to be near her daughter Diane.

The second-oldest of six children, Daisy helped to raise her younger siblings and went on to have one child with the "love of her life" Fred.

A retired cleaner for Birmingham Chest Clinic, Daisy's passion for cleaning continued into her final years and her bedroom at Nightingale Court was always kept in immaculate condition.

She had four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Daisy turned 107 on June 9 and celebrated the momentous occasion with a party at the home, although she was sadly unable to spend the day with family due to the coronavirus lockdown.

Her daughter Diane North told The Shuttle: "She passed away last Tuesday. She had been wandering around like she always did and then she sat in a chair and smiled at one of the girls and went to sleep.

"She had Alzheimer's disease so she didn't know who I was in the end. I am sad I hadn't been able to see her but I'm glad it was peaceful at the end."

Paying tribute to her mother, Diane said: "A lot of people knew her from seeing her in the newspaper every year on her birthday.

"She was lovely. She was kind, hard-working and she loved life. She was wonderful."
