A MUM is asking the public to donate books on anti-racism in a bid to educate the younger community.

Lucy Weaver, aged 41, was inspired to set up a non-profit social enterprise focused on educating the younger generations following the Black Lives Matter movement.

Ms Weaver, from Evesham said: “With the recent increase in purchases of books related to black history, anti-racism, white supremacy, diversity and the patriarchy, I decided to contact my children’s school to offer to donate some such books to their school libraries.

“Upon receiving such a positive response from them I saw the potential to expand on this and create a social enterprise focused on educating our younger generations and supporting schools.

“I have set up a book donation/recycling ‘service’ and I’m inviting people to send to me their used (or new) copies of literature (child and adult) related to anti-racism and black history etc.”

The mum-of-two added: “I can’t change the world, but it could be a positive shift. The curriculum needs to include this sort of thing.

“The Black Lives Matter movement during lockdown made me want to re-educate myself and educate my children. I just want to help change children’s understanding of this.

“We might not be able to change the curriculum easily or quickly, but we can help the current school generation access a part of history that my generation didn’t learn in school.

“If people do have books sitting around they can email me and I can find a way of distributing them.

“I feel something positive can come from this.”

After receiving the books, Ms Weaver will redistribute them to Worcestershire schools who have expressed an interest.

All donated books will be quarantined for 72 hours as per government guidelines before being sent to schools.
