A POLICE officer is set to appear in court charged with causing death by dangerous driving near Stourport.

West Mercia Police constable Jamie Holloway has been charged with causing the death of a 53-year-old man by dangerous driving on May 28, 2018.

PC Holloway was responding to an emergency call when the unmarked police car he was driving was involved in a crash with another car on the A449 from Worcester to Stourport.

The driver of that car suffered multiple injuries. The Shuttle reported at the time that the driver was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, while the officers involved suffered no injuries and did not require hospital treatment.

The man sadly died in hospital on June 11.

The incident was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which carried out an independent investigation into the events that led to the man's death.

The IOPC subsequently referred the case to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for a charging decision and PC Holloway was charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

He is set to appear at Kidderminster Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

West Mercia Police Assistant Chief Constable, Rachel Jones, said: “Our thoughts continue to remain with the family and friends of the man involved at what continues to be an extremely upsetting and difficult time.

“As court proceedings are now underway, it would be inappropriate for us to make any further comment regarding the circumstances.”
