THE new hockey centre in Worcester has received a funding boost as members of Worcester Hockey Club took on a weekend of activities.

The weekend of July 11 and 12 saw Worcester Hockey Club take on a Lockdown Landmark Challenge.

The aim was to run, walk or cycle a distance of 500km to raise money to support the development of the new hockey centre to be built at Perdiswell.

85 hockey club members covered a total of 1,583 kilometers as friends and family came together, touring landmarks of Worcester including Pitchcroft racecourse, the Cathedral, Lea and Perrins as well as the current hockey pitches at Nunnery Wood and University of Worcester.

The event was also an opportunity for the club to get together to chat and check in with each other after what for many has been a challenging lockdown.

Julie Harwood, Worcester Hockey club fundraising team, said: "This weekend was absolutely amazing. We saw men, women and juniors out and about around Worcester.

"Some took on challenges like covering a marathon distance over the weekend, and other used it as an opportunity to catch up with friends and have a socially distanced picnic on the racecourse.

"The new hockey centre, which they are fundraising for, will be a fantastic addition to the city, benefiting not just members of the club, but schools and the wider community."

So far, this event has raised nearly £3000 towards to the £400,000 the club needs to raise to build the centre. Anyone can donate at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/whclockdownlandmarkrelay
