A HOMELESS man who spat at and kicked a police officer in Malvern has been jailed.

28 year-old Said Khalid, of no fixed abode, was jailed this month after he admitted to the assault, which took place on July 6.

Magistrates in Kidderminster heard how Khalid had been at Great Malvern station at around 10.15pm on July 6.

He had been acting aggressively after he was asked to get off the train.

Railway staff then called the police, who arrived to make Khalid move.

While there, he spat in the face of one of the officers, kicking him in the shin.

Following the incident, Khalid was charged with assaulting an emergency worker.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "This incident took place at 10.15pm on July 6 at Great Malvern station.

“Said Khalid, 28 of no fixed address, arrested and charged with assaulting an emergency worker.

“He was accused of spitting at an officer after being asked to leave the train, railway staff had called officers to the scene after Khalid had acted aggressively towards them.

"He pleaded guilty and was sentenced at Kidderminster Magistrates Court on Wednesday, July 8.”

Khalid was jailed for six months when he appeared at court, and the South Worcestershire policing team announced the news, saying: "Following an incident in Malvern on the 6th July where a male spat in a police officer’s face and kicked him in the shin has been sentenced to 26 weeks in prison.”
