FRUSTRATED Ryan Aston feels the past few months have been “completely wasted” after his comeback ended in premature fashion.

The 21-year-old middleweight’s clash with Tyan Booth in Nottingham last Saturday was stopped in the third round after the Dudley man was cut above the right eye, following an accidental clash of heads.

Referee Terry O’Connor ruled the contest a technical draw after consulting the ringside doctor but Aston, pictured, making his first appearance since defeat to Curtis Valentine in July, feels the officials acted too hastily.

It was an opinion re-enforced later in the evening after he watched fellow fighters Scott Cardle and Tony Bellew come through fights despite suffering severe cuts.

He said: “When you look at what happened in other fights you have to ask why mine was stopped?

“Scott Cardle ended up needing seven stitches but I didn’t need anything like that.

“My corner was given no time to work on the cut and I feel they were far too hasty.”

He added: “It’s just really, really frustrating. I thought this was my chance to turn things around and get a win.

“I felt good. The first round was a bit tentative but there was nothing there for me to be nervous about.

“He kept throwing the jab, which we expected but I felt he was already starting to tire.

“This isn’t a win, it’s not a loss, it’s just a draw and you can’t really go anywhere with it.

“I feel like it’s 16 weeks preparation totally wasted.”

Aston revealed it is now likely to be February before he fights again.

He said: “I’ve got 28 days out with the cut which pretty much rules out all the shows in December and there is not much on in January.”
