DUDLEY’S Ryan Aston is awaiting news on who he will face when he tops the bill at a Black Country fight night.

Promoter PJ Rowson has announced Aston will top his ‘Time To Prospect’ show at Wolverhampton Civic Hall on Saturday, July 6.

Aston was a top-class amateur who won four national titles and was part of the Great Britain squad.

“I’m hoping to finalise the card in the next week or so,” said Rowson.

The undercard features former world number one Joe Costello who as a teenager was rated the best schoolboy boxer on the planet at 43kgs after winning the European Championship in 2007, dropping just three points on his way to gold.

He was named best boxer after winning national schools honours in 2008, added the Junior ABA championships the following year and went almost four years unbeaten.

After 37 wins in 42 bouts, the 18-year-old super-featherweight from Marston Green in the Birmingham suburbs has decided to turn professional.

He’s managed by Rowson and trained by father John at his gym under a butcher’s in Chelmsley Wood.

Costello describes Joe as “a slick, orthodox Frankie Gavin with a punch” and his gym mates include big brother Thomas Costello, former Commonwealth light-middleweight champion Jamie Cox and Jordan Clayton.

Clayton reached Junior ABA and CYPs with Chelmsley Wood ABC and should be an exciting addition to the super-middleweight ranks. Costello says he’s “a mini-Tyson with a crash, bang wallop style.”

Ricky Summers is another boxer from Rowson’s stable who has an impressive amateur pedigree. He missed out on a place in the 2011 ABA light-heavyweight final by a single point and has won both as a professional.

The show also features Dave Egan and new professionals Craig Willshee, a promising light- middleweight from Swadlincote, and former amateur star Samson Sykes.

Sykes is a southpaw slickster from Hinckley who won gold at the Commonwealth Youth Games last year - and says he wants to meet Haroon Khan in the pros.

Des Bowater has a busy, crowd-pleasing style that should make him a fans’ favourite and Luke Paddock and Lance Brooks look to extend their unbeaten records.
