LYE Town will be looking to pull out all the stops this Saturday when they take on top of the table Hereford side Pegasus Juniors at Stourbridge Road.

Pegasus have won all nine of their West Midlands League games this season, while last season’s runners-up Lye are unbeaten in eight starts.

Lye have claimed 20 out of a possible 24 points so far and kept in touch with the leaders this week following a comprehensive 3-0 beating of Bromyard Town but were then held to a goalless draw at Dudley Sports.

Joint Lye boss Martin Thomas said: “The 3-0 win last Saturday was flattering for Bromyard, but we didn’t play as well as we can against Dudley Sports.

“Their goalkeeper Dominic Richards pulled off a couple of great saves, but we were lacking a cutting edge up front!”

Lye remain without last season’s leading marksman Ricky Anslow.

Thomas said: “There’s been a setback to his recovery.

“He stood on a stone while we were pre-season training on the Clent Hills and went over on his ankle.

“He’s has an x-ray on it and we thought it was just ligament damage. He’s been back in light training, but still has a problem twisting and turning.

“It’s been a really frustrating time for us because we’re missing Ricky’s pace up front”.

Lye can welcome back Stuart Ward from suspension for the clash with Pegasus but will be missing injury victims Ian Millward and Nicky Pugh along with Anslow.

Meanwhile, Sports joint-manager Tony Gore couldn’t hide his delight this week after his side walloped Willenhall Town 5-0 and then held high flying Lye Town to a goalless draw in the West Midlands League.

He said: “It’s been coming together quite nicely over the past five weeks. “Losing 12 to 13 players during the summer knocks the stuffing out of you, but we’ve rebuilt with a really good young side.

“To hold the title favourites to a draw just shows how far we’ve come!

Striker Dan Evans stole the show against Willenhall when netting four times and has proved a real asset for Sports following his arrival from Tividale on loan, while Jud Ellis supplied the fifth goal.

Sports have a FA Vase tie this Saturday when they host Midland Combination side Atherstone at Hillcrest Avenue, who this week knocked Redditch United out of the FA Cup.
