HIMLEY skipper Greg Wright has backed his side to avoid the drop if they can field their strongest side for the final three Birmingham League Division One games.

They slipped further towards the dropzone after back-to-back bank holiday weekend defeats.

Wright's men lost by eight wickets at Tamworth on Saturday before a five-wicket defeat at leaders Kidderminster on Monday.

The results leave them third from bottom and 38 points ahead of Brockhampton in the final relegation place.

They now head into the final three games, starting with the visit of promotion hopefuls Shifnal this Saturday (noon start).

Wright says his side will be working hard to make sure they don't suffer relegation heartache, which would also see them slip out of Birmingham League cricket due to next summer's league reshuffle.

"We have again struggled to get our best side out and were comprehensively beaten in both games," he said.

"If we can get our best players on the pitch then I'd fancy us against anyone in this league. It's been a big problem this year and it's something we need to resolve. It's been a mix of injury and the lads we have built the side around not being committed enough. I think I've used over 20 players in the league this season.

"The senior sides are struggling and we need to have a rethink and change things next year. We have good people at the club who will hopefully do what is needed but before then we must make sure we stay up.

"We haven't been consistent enough but all we can do now is work hard and be positive. We're just taking it day-by-day and week-by-week.

"We should have a few people back this weekend and maybe one win will be enough for us."

Himley could have a stronger bowling attack this weekend with Chris Boroughs and Adam Finch set to return. Jamie Turner is hoping to shake off an injury to also feature.
