DUDLEY Town are aiming to keep their winning league run going as they head to Wednesfield this weekend.

After a defeat and two draws in their first three games of the season, The Robins breathed life into their West Midlands Premier League campaign with back-to-back victories over Wellington and Cradley Town.

But boss Dean Whitehouse was left with mixed emotions on Saturday after their FA Vase opponents Bardon Hill pulled out of the competition – gifting Town passage into the second round.

Despite the joy of making it into the next round of the cup competition, Whitehouse was frustrated for his players at not being able to keep their momentum going.

The manager said: “We’re happy that we have made it through to the next round of the cup, but to be honest, we would’ve rather had a game to play instead of a training session.

“After the two good wins our confidence is high, but we all know that in our league anyone can beat anyone, so it will be another tough game.”

With no injuries affecting his team heading into Saturday’s trip to Wednesfield (3pm kick-off), the boss is however hoping to bring in a few new players in the coming days to add experience to what is otherwise a youthful looking squad.

Whitehouse added: “We have a couple of requests in for players who we hope will add experience to the team. I think we are almost there with this side, but we could do with a few older players.

“If we look back at the start of the season, I think the games could have gone a lot differently if we would have had a few more experienced heads in the team.

“But we have to be careful. We have some very exciting young players at this club who have stuck with us, so we don’t want to upset the balance of the squad.”
