How they rated:

Stourbridge 2, Royston 1.

Wren: His mistake led to Royston’s equaliser after his spilt Corcoran’s free-kick to Assombalonga. Made up for that by saving from the same player later on and collected well late on when needed. 6.

Hayden: Read the game well and won his headers too. Safety first at times when clearing the ball upfield. 7.

Brown: Solid afternoon overall. Again slotted in at left-back and did well. 6.

McCone: Did okay against the lively frontline of Mooney and Patton but did give away the free-kick that led to the visitors’ leveller, though it looked a strange decision from the ref. 6.

Westlake: Positioned himself well to deal with Assombalonga in the first half but had to be replaced at the break after picking up an injury. 5.

Forde: Another decent showing in Stour’s engine room. Got his challenges in, pressed well and also offered protection to his defence. 7.

Powell: So often in the first half his final ball let him down and he was too easily eased off the ball. However, he came to life when his side needed him and provided an excellent finish with the outside of his right foot for the winner. 7.

Broadhurst: He gelled well with Forde to press the ball well in midfield. Linked play in difficult conditions before drifting out of it and being replaced by Birch late on. 6.

Benbow: Looked like he didn’t trust himself to run at full tilt at times and pulled up on a couple of occasions. He was an important focal point regardless. Looked like he fouled Norvell-Williams for his side’s winner but he got the rub of the green after working hard to press the defender so late on. Fired a free-kick narrowly over. 7.

Thompson-Brown: Netted his first for the club to break the deadlock and was at the fore of Stour’s best attacking play. Linked up well and worked a host of other chances, mainly from range. 7.5.

Mills: It was a difficult afternoon for the winger who struggled to get into the game for long periods and found it hard to isolate his man. He is capable of much more. 6.

Subs: Anderson: Added some pace to Stour’s attack late on and got Stour back on the frontfoot as time ran out. 6.

Birch: Late change for Broadhurst but provided fresh legs in a key area of the park. 6.

Christophorou: Replaced Westlake at the break and defended well at times against the tricky Assombalonga. 6.

Unused subs: Pierpoint, Steele.
