STOURBRIDGE boxer Sam Eggington will look to spoil the party for hometown hero Liam Smith on Saturday night.

The Savage heads to Liverpool to face the former WBO super-welterweight world champion at the M&S Bank Arena, live on Sky Sports.

Smith will make his debut under the Matchroom banner and will be looking to take another big step towards another world title shot in 2019 with a victory in front of his home fans.

However, first he will have to find a way past Eggington, who is looking to bounce back from his defeat against Tanzania’s Hassan Mwakinyo in Birmingham last September.

The former British and Commonwealth welterweight champion is keen to register an upset that would rocket him back into title contention

Speaking to the News after landing the fight with Smith, he said: "After what happened in my last fight, I've really landed on my feet getting this big opportunity against Liam Smith.

"It's obviously in his back garden but those away days are always better.

"I'm more than confident of putting on a good performance. It's a big chance for me to get right back on track and I'm planning to take it."

On Smith, he added: "We do know each other quite well because we've had some really good sparring sessions in the past.

"I really like him so have made sure to watch his fights whenever he's been on.

"I know a lot of people will doubt me for this now, and I don't blame them after the last performance, but I'm very confident."

The Liverpool show will also see Anthony Fowler and Scott Fitzgerald collide in a battle of unbeaten super-welterweight prospects, while heavyweight David Price returns against Birmingham's Kash Ali.
