STOURBRIDGE skipper Josh Banks believes Jujhar Johal's 119 not out against league leaders Redditch was one of the finest innings he's ever witnessed at their level of cricket.

Johal laid the foundation for an imperious seven wicket win which takes Stourbridge within striking distance of the leaders.

Banks declared: "Jujhar's innings was the difference between the sides. It was the best innings I've seen at this level. It was mature beyond his years."

Johal has blossomed with both bat and ball since switching to Stourbridge from local rivals Old Hill.

A product of Bromsgrove School, Johal was on Worcestershire's books as a youngster and Banks remains in no doubt:

"Worcester should have given him more of a crack! Maybe his fielding let him down at the time, but I've seen worse players get more of a go.

"He's a real talent and he's got all the shots in the world but sometimes he gets himself out.

"We've had a bit of an unfortunate start to the season and it doesn't help that we have to share our ground with the football club.

"It meant that we had to play five consecutive away games, but now I feel this victory over Redditch has put us in a position where we can kick on.

"Redditch have been a bit of surprise package this season and I'll be interested to see where they finish up.

"We're fifth at the moment, but we're only one win off top spot and I believe we're now gathering momentum".

Stourbridge bid to build on their victory over Redditch when they entertain Evesham at Amblecote this Saturday.

OLD Hill snatched a sensational last ball success over Worcester CC in the Worcester County Premier Division.

The final pair of Jehangir Baig and wicketkeeper Suhayl Igbal scrambled a final ball bye to seal victory.

Worcester had set a target of 152 for five to chase from a reduced 26 overs.

After slumping to 19 for four, skipper Jonathan Wright with 52 and former Warwickshire player Naqaash Tahir who hit 41 turned matters around for Old Hill who scraped home on 153 for nine.
