STOURBRIDGE’S search for a right-back on the eve of the new season hit another snag with Halesowen’s Jamie Ashmore rejecting a move to Amblecote.

Stour boss Ian Long had also tried to bag Josh Ezewele from former club Alvechurch before turning his attention to Ashmore.

However, the former Redditch United defender is the latest to reject the chance to link up with the Glassboys.

Halesowen manager Paul Smith believes Ashmore’s snub of Stour is a massive boost for his own side this summer.

He said: “Jamie has been very good for us and has been flying during pre-season, so it’s no surprise to me that people are interested.

“The fact that he’s staying with us shows us what we doing is right and that he had really bought into it.

“Halesowen are a big club, every bit as big as Stourbridge, but we’re just at a lower level at the current time. This is a massive vote of confidence for us heading into the new season.”
