HAGLEY golfer Hugh Adams has been crowned winner of the Scottish Boys’ under-14 Open Championship after a dominant display at Newmachar Golf Club.

Having shot a 10-under par 62 in his opening round, Adams had a long time to wait before getting started on day two, teeing it up in the final group of the day.

Holding an eight-shot lead as he got underway, Adams dropped two shots on his opening four holes but bounced back with a birdie at the eighth to reach the turn at one-over for the day, seven shots clear.

After three bogeys and a birdie between 10 and 14, the Hagley Golf Club member stood on the 15th with a five shot lead. Showing no signs of nerves, he birdied 15, 16 and 17, before a closing par at 18 to finish on 10-under par for the tournament, eight shots clear of his nearest competitor.

Speaking to Scottish Golf after his victory, Adams said: “It’s something that I dreamt of last night. All the hard work was done yesterday so I just tried to relax and enjoy it today.

“I was struggling a bit with my driver over the first few holes, but I holed a couple of putts to keep the momentum going.”

On birdieing three of the last four holes, he added: “That was incredible, the adrenaline was going through me at that point and kept me going.”
