DUDLEY Kingswinford RFC joint head coach Neil Shillingford has called on his side to banish their away day blues when they visit Cheltenham North this Saturday.

Shillingford watched his side maintain their perfect home record with a nine try 57-21 hammering of Camp Hill last weekend.

But it is on the road, where thay have yet to win, that their season is faltering and Shillingford believes a trip to struggling Cheltenham could be just the tonic for their poor away form.

He said: “It’s a big chance to get that elusive first away win.

“It’s all a question of confidence, if we can get a win it will hopefully give us the kickstart we need.

“We have to put the performance in and not worry too mcuh about the result.

“If we get the performance I know the result will follow.”

On Saturday DK raced into the lead inside two minutes as Ed Parry crashed over, only for an error to allow the visitors to level almost straight away.

Tries by Gareth Bown, Andy McEwen, returning prop Stefan Thorp and Andy Huggins gave DK a 33-7 half-time lead, before four second half efforts completed the rout.

Nevertheless, Shillingford was frustrated by the way his side gifted the opposition two more tries and insists it is vital they cut out silly errors.

He said: “It was not the greatest performance, though the result was good.

“I was a little bit disappointed at the tries we let in.

“I thought we were trying to force things a little bit, we made a cracking start but then gifted them a score straight away.

“We were always going to win the game, it was just a case of by how many and I think a 57-23 win should have been 80-0.

“Perhaps that’s being over critical but the mistakes we made would have been punished by the better sides.”

Winger Stefan Shillingford is the only injury concern ahead of this weekend after picking up a knock in the last five minutes of the game.

The joint boss was pleased with the performances of Thorp and Nick Biddlecombe, who replaced the injured Simon Fletcher.

He said: “I was very impressed with Stefan (Thorp) in the front row, while Nick did well.

“We mixed the front row up a bit in the second half and while it didn’t necessarily work, it did answer a few questions.”
