DUDLEY middleweight Jamie Ball is hoping to make it a family double and impress a boxing legend at his next fight.

Undefeated Ball takes on Martyn King at the bumper Crunchtime at Lunchtime 2 show at Wolverhampton Civic Hall on Sunday, March 14, with the event set to be broadcast across the world online on former world champion-turned-promoter Ricky Hatton’s website.

Meanwhile, 13-year-old brother Danny will also be protecting an unbeaten record when he continues his promising amateur progress for Black Country ABC at Charlemont Bowling Club in Sandwell, two days before Jamie’s fight, on Friday March 12.

The elder brother has been given extra motivation by the news Hatton himself will be present to watch the Civic bill.

Ball said: “Ricky being there is an additional inspiration, it’s a real chance to impress.

“With my brother fighting a couple of days before we want to make sure it’s a winning weekend for all the family.”

Ball has been travelling to Manchester regularly to train in recent weeks, sparring with experienced light middleweight Matthew Hall to gain experience of fighting the southpaw style.

Manchester-based King, who has won two and lost four of his six professional bouts, sits several places above Ball in the Boxing News rankings making it a good opportunity for the Dudley man to move up the list.

Ball added: “For some reason he is ranked above me, even though I’m unbeaten, so that’s an extra incentive to beat him.

“It’s still a step up for me, a lot of the people I’ve fought previously have had journeyman records but there are no bad fights on this bill.

“It’s the first time I’ve done six three minute rounds too so it’s a step up in that respect.

“The aim is to win this fight and get up to ten rounders by the end of the year.”

Ball will undergo surgery to repair cartilage damage in the weeks after the fight but hopes to return on a Hatton Promotions bill in June.

In the meantime, he has been following Danny’s progress at amateur level.

The youngster has won all four of his fights so far and contributed to an excellent start for the new Black Country club, which has a number of other potential stars in Ryan Corrigan and Alan Rhodes.

Coach Rob Wright said: “Danny has been doing really well and hopefully he can stay unbeaten.”

The show at the Civic also features Brierley Hill’s Martin Gordon’s attempt at the British Masters welterweight crown, while middleweight Richie Ghent is also defending an unbeaten record.

Tickets for the show are selling well and promoter PJ Rowson is also offering sponsorship opportunities which includes one-minute advertisements between rounds live on the net. Further information and tickets call Rowson on 07976 283157 or email pjrowson@hotmail.co.uk
