KYLE Hill struck in stoppage time to ensure Tividale finished the season with a win.

The striker peeled away from his marker before unleashing a low shot past keeper Matt Eden and into the bottom corner.

It had looked like being a frustrating afternoon as both sides had chances but could not convert, with Anthony Cox shooting just off target on three occasions for the home side.

Matt Williams and Mike Craig spurned the visitors best opportunities.

Thoughts of summer were a million miles from the thoughts of those present at Packwood Road as the game was played out in chilly, blustery and wet conditions.

But this did not detract from the bright, attacking play of both sides, though it looked destined to be a tale of missed opportunities until Hill’s late winner.

Cox was the first to go close in the second minute when he sent a looping effort over the bar.

The home side dominated possession in the early exchanges but the visitors always looked dangerous on the break and in their first attack Mike OIive just failed to get his header on target from Williams’ cross.

Home stopper Mark Evans just about dealt with another dangerous, whipped centre from the same man before Craig squandered a golden opportunity to open the scoring.

He robbed a dithering Tom Halford on the edge of the box but with just Evans to beat his chipped finish lacked conviction and bobbled harmlessly wide of the post.

At the other end Hill just failed to connect with a Matt Hearsey cross following a flowing move from the home side.

Cox sent a powerful volley inches over and a Rob Perks free-kick just cleared the far post as Tivi began the second half with menace. But the visitors were always a threat and Stuart Marshall had to be alert to block a powerful effort from Olive.

Cox was once again inches away from putting the hosts in front after racing onto Brett Clarke’s flick on, before Williams went close twice in quick succession for Wellington.

First he shot wide when well placed at the far post before seconds later racing clear only to produce a lobbed effort which beat everything, including the bar, with Evans stranded.

The final ten minutes saw the hosts push for a winner and Joel Kettle shot wide, while Mark Turton’s dangerous cross evaded everyone to drop wide.

It seemed a game which looked likely to go either way would go neither before Hill’s late intervention – the goal helping Tivi jump to a final position of seventh in the West Midlands Premier.
