BACK rower Cornell du Preez will remain in hospital for “at least another two or three weeks” according to Worcester Warriors boss Alan Solomons.

The Scotland international damaged his voice box and fractured his Adam’s apple in Warriors’ defeat to Wasps on the opening weekend of the Premiership season.

Since the injury on September 1, du Preez has been treated at the Heartlands Hospital and Birmingham Chest Clinic.

But Solomons said his situation was “improving” and he was hopeful the 27-year-old would be out of hospital “shortly”.

“I am waiting for our medical staff to give us an update but I think he is making progress, so that's a positive,” Solomons said.

“But he is still in hospital and from what I am understand he is going to be there for at least another two or three weeks.

“It has been tough for him. Everyone has been supportive and is taking visitors so I think it’s better.

“When you consider when that injured took place it was the Wasps game which was a long time ago.”

Asked whether du Preez had undergone further surgery, Solomons said: “I don’t know the details.

“I think he has been able to swallow thin liquid, like water, but I am not sure about thicker stuff.

“I would rather not comment until I have got information from our medical staff.”
