A TEENAGE duo from Stourbridge have made it through to the regional finals of a national singing competition.

Hannah Jordan, 16, and 12-year-old Lucy Mae-Hill, who formed the group Harmonize, auditioned against hundreds of other youngsters in their bid to be named winners of Teen Star.

The pair, who started singing together when they were both part of Stagecoach Stourbridge, have progressed to the competition’s regional finals at the NEC in Birmingham on Saturday March 28.

Hannah said: “We are so happy to have made it through. There was so much talent in the auditions and so are honoured to be selected for the top 20.

“We are super excited about making it to regional finals, hopefully it will allow us to gain a lot of experience and perform our music to an audience of about 500 people.”

More than 8,000 acts audition each year for the competition which aims to find the UK's best teen and pre-teen singers, singer/songwriters, rappers and vocalists.

Throughout the competition acts can perform either covers or original material.

Both Hannah, a sixth form student at Haybridge High School, in Hagley, and The Wordsley School pupil Lucy write and sing their own songs.

The pair will perform one of Hannah’s original songs Black and Blue, which she wrote to raise awareness for Macmillan Cancer Support, at the regional finals.

After making it thorough to the same stage as a soloist last year, Hannah hopes to go even further alongside Lucy this time around.

She said: “It is going to be even better performing with Lucy this year.

“We were hoping to get this far and we had been rehearsing for months beforehand. A lot of effort went into our performance.

“We are hoping to make it through to the area finals but are taking it one step at a time at the moment. But of course getting to the grand final would be a dream come true.

“Either way we are going to try our absolute best to get as far as possible in the competition.”

If they get through to the next stage of the area finals they will sing Lucy’s original piece entitled Falling for You.

Grand final winners of the competition will receive recording studio time, singing lessons, music development classes and a cheque for £5,000.
