STOURBRIDGE’S salsa gran is being tipped to win this year’s Britain’s Got Talent - before the new series has even started!

Sarah ‘Paddy’ Jones, who made headlines around the world when she and toyboy dance partner Nicko Espinosa won the Spanish version of BGT 'Tu Si Que Vales' five years ago, is a contestant on this year’s TV talent show – it has been revealed.

The new series is set to air this Saturday (April 12) at 7.15pm on ITV1 when viewers will see the good, the bad and the ugly vying to impress TV judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, David Walliams and Alesha Dixon.

Paddy, aged 79, and Nicko, who is almost 40 years her junior, are reported to have wowed the star-studded panel with their racy salsa routine when they took to the stage at the BGT Birmingham auditions earlier this year.

And they have been dubbed favourites to win the top TV talent show which has turned the likes of opera singers Paul Potts and Susan Boyle, dance act Diversity and dog dance duo Ashleigh and Pudsey into household names.

The gutsy great-grandmother and 40-year-old Spanish dance teacher Nicko put together their novelty act around a decade ago after Paddy took up dancing following the death of her husband David from leukaemia - and they have been showcasing their dynamic dance moves at salsa congresses around the world ever since.

The unlikely pair enjoyed a taste of international fame when they won the top prize on Tu Si Que Vales in 2009 when a clip of their raunchy routine was posted on YouTube - and they have since appeared on a host of popular TV shows including This Morning, The Paul O’Grady Show and Argentina’s version of Strictly Come Dancing.

Further stardom, however, could be imminent for plucky Paddy and Nicko according to national newspapers and TV spoiler websites are predicting the pair are set to take Britain by storm.

Paddy, who used to run Paddy’s Fabrics in Stourbridge's Victoria Passage before retiring to Gandia in Spain, said of her act in which Nicko flings her around the stage: “It makes people smile and laugh and these days that’s worth a million.”

I personally think it's wrong BGT is recruiting people who have won in other countries or are already professionally paid performers. It makes a mockery of the ethos of the show.

I wouldn't worry. The target audience probably isn't smart enough to notice or care.
